Grants

The EPS has a variety of grants available to support our Divisions and Groups that organise conferences, our Individual Members attending conferences, and to provide awards for excellent conference contributions.

For Conferences

Overview

This grant supports conference participation of young scientists who otherwise would not be able to attend because of the cost of travel and registration fees.

  • The maximum grant amount awarded per conference is 1,000€
  • The maximum amount allowed per awardee is 350€.

 

Application Conditions

  • The event must be an EPS Europhysics Conferences organised by an EPS Division or Group.
  • The award recipient must (1) not have received their PhD more than 6 years (or equivalent) prior to the application, (2) present a contribution, (3) be currently studying or working at a European institution, and (4) demonstrate economic need.

 

Reporting

  • Conference organisers must submit our general online conference report form after the event.
  • Conference organisers must send the contact information of the grant recipients.

 

How to Apply

When completing the Europhysics Conference Form, simply indicate in the Grants section whether you would like to apply for this grant and the amount you are requesting. Applications should be made at least 6 months prior to the start of the conference.

Overview

The EPS encourages recognition of the scientific merit of early career researchers, offering the possibility of a poster prize for researchers in the PhD phase of their career who present an excellent poster at a Europhysics Conference or EPS Recognised Conference.

  • The maximum grant amount awarded per conference is 200€

 

Application Conditions

  • The event must be an EPS Europhysics Conference or EPS Recognised Conference.
  • Poster Prizes must be given to PhD students (defined by student registration).
  • The poster must be prepared by the student.
  • The conference organisers must advertise the award as the EPS Poster Prize.

 

Reporting

  • Conference organisers must submit our general online conference report form after the event.
  • Contact information for the Invited Speaker grant recipient must be shared.
  • The Invited Speaker should be informed that they may be contacted by the editor of Europhysics News inviting a feature article based on their contribution.

 

How to Apply

When completing the Europhysics Conference Form, simply indicate in the Grants section whether you would like to apply for this grant and the amount you are requesting. Applications should be made at least 6 months prior to the start of the conference.

Overview

This grant exists to alleviate the cost of Invited Speakers for Europhysics Conferences organised by an EPS Division or Group.

  • The maximum grant amount awarded per conference is 500€

 

Application Conditions

  • The event must be an EPS Europhysics Conferences organised by an EPS Division or Group
  • The award decision will be made on the basis of the quality of the speaker and talk.

 

Reporting

  • Conference organisers must submit our general online conference report form after the event.
  • Contact information for the Invited Speaker grant recipient must be shared.
  • The Invited Speaker should be informed that they may be contacted by the editor of Europhysics News inviting a feature article based on their contribution.

 

How to Apply

For Individuals

Overview

This grant supports exists to alleviate the financial cost for EPS Invididual Members to participate in Europhysics and EPS Recognised Conferences. 

  • Only one grant will be awarded per person per year. 
  • The awarded amount will vary depending on the travel and registration cost.

 

Application Conditions

  • The event must be an EPS Europhysics Conference or EPS Recognised Conference.
  • The Individual Member must be up to date in the payment of his/her members fees.
  • The Individual Member must have an accepted oral or poster contribution to
    the conference.

 

Reporting

  • Within 60 days of the end of the conference, the grant recipient is required to submit a review via our online Individual Member Travel Grant Report Form located at the bottom of this page.

 

How to Apply

Complete the Individual Member Travel Grant Application Form located at the bottom of this page. Please submit an application as soon as possible after receiving confirmation of an accepted contribution for the upcoming conference.

Overview

Young generation scientists are one of the main target groups the activities of the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation are addressed to. Therefore, in 1989, the foundation together with the DPG established a programme that gives young physicists in an early period of their scientific career (Master, Diplom or PhD thesis) the opportunity to present their own scientific results to a censorious audience.

 

Application Conditions

  • you are a personal member of DPG,
  • you are a conference participant with an age up to 35 years*,
  • you have not yet completed your doctorate,
  • your centre of living or work is located in Germany,
  • you do not get financial support or only partial finacial support from your university or academic institution for conference participation and
  • you are the (co-)author of a conference contribution (talk or a poster) which was submitted and has been accepted by the administration of the conference (Only one participation per contribution can be subsidised!) …

Other Grants​

Overview

This award exists for organisers of international physics competitions such as Olympiads, tournaments, and other international contests that promote physics based on work of school students. The grants are intended as sponsorship of an award to a student, team, or a teacher/supervisor.

 

Application Conditions

  • Students must be enrolled in a European institution in a physics or physics related degree granting course at the Masters level or equivalent. Third cycle students are not eligible. 
  • Students can receive an EPS-USF only once. Students who have received grants from other bodies are
    eligible.
  • Recipients should spend a period of at least three months at the university of their choice which should be in another European country from where they are enrolled.

  

How to Apply

The organisers must submit a request for the grant through our Contact Form page with a short description of the competition, place and date, and the nature of the award they wish to attribute to the student, team, or teacher/supervisor.

Overview

In order to promote regional cooperation in physics, the EPS is willing to consider financing activities that fall outside the existing grant schemes. These grants should not normally be used to finance events that have been (or would be) disqualified from other funding schemes.

 

Application Conditions

  • At least 3 EPS Member Societies should be among the organizers and /or participants. 

  • The grants are for Physics related events with an international dimension. 

  • EPS participation is necessary. 
  • Where another grant scheme is available, the applicant must use that scheme. 
 

How to Apply

The organisers must submit a request for the grant through our Contact Form page with a short description of the name and purpose of the project, place and date, expected participation, and a preliminary budget.
