Condensed Matter Division

The CMD aims to serve its scientific, industrial and educational communities by helping them to obtain the latest information on progress in their specialties and related fields, to gain visibility for their research, to help them interact with their peers and to develop professionally.

In recognition of a prominent and well-identifiable discovery, breakthrough, or contribution to condensed matter physics, by one or more individuals, that represents scientific excellence. 


Overview

  • The award recipient will present their work at the General Conference of the Condensed Matter Division of the EPS. 
  • The 2023 award winner received a 10,000€ prize reward.
  • This prize has been awarded since 1975 and is one of Europe’s most prestigious prizes in the field of condensed matter physics. 


Eligibility

  • The prize will be awarded to a person who has made outstanding contributions to the science of liquid matter in the experimental or theoretical area and who is still active in research.  The award may be given for pure or applied research.

 

Nomination Process

  • The recipient of the award will be selected by a committee of 6 members to be appointed by the Condensed Matter Division without restriction as to nationality. The terms of members of the committee and its internal and parliamentary procédure will be at the discretion of the Society.

 

Key Dates

For the recognition of outstanding achievements in the fields of Physics of the Liquid State, Soft Condensed Matter Physics, or Granular Physics, by scientists that are still active.

Overview

  • Instituted in 1988, The EPS CMD Liquid Matter Prize is one of Europe’s most prestigious prizes in the field of condensed matter physics. 
  • Awarded every 3 years during the Liquid Matter Conference.


Eligibility

  • Awarded to an active researcher.
  • No age limit or restrictions as to nationality.
 

Nomination Process

  • The nomination (1-page A4 max.) must include a short citation and a brief description of the main achievements of the candidate.


Key Dates

  • The previous EPS Liquid Matter Prize was presented at the 12th Liquid Matter Conference, held in Mainz, Germany, 22-27 September 2024.
