The scientific activities of EPS are organised through our Divisions and Groups. The Divisions and Groups are governed by boards elected from their members. Some Divisions have Sections representing focused interests.
Divisions are organised around domains for physics. Groups are organised around topics which span several topics.
To provide coordination and exchange of information within the European atomic, molecular and optical physics community.
To serve its scientific, industrial and educational communities by helping them to obtain the latest information on progress in their specialties and related fields, to gain visibility for their research, to help them interact with their peers, and to develop professionally.
To boost the influence and role of physics in the study of all kinds of biological problems at any possible level (research, education, dissemination and policies).
To represent and provide a forum for European Scientists in any aspect of Environmental Physics including its neighbouring disciplines.
To advance the study of the Sun, the dissemination of key results of solar physics research to the general public, and the promotion and coordination of such research with other areas and branches of the physical sciences.
To represent and provide a forum for European scientists interested in any aspect of gravitational physics.
To coordinate views on research facilities, organize conferences (including topical meetings), and assist in the coordination of advanced education in the theoretical and experimental physics of elementary particles and fundamental interactions, including particle astrophysics and cosmology.
To assist the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in nuclear physics
We define nuclear physics as the study of nuclei, their structure, disintegration, interactions and other properties, including the constituent parts of the nucleus and their interactions with one another and with nuclei and with the atomic environment.
To help strengthen the perception of the physics discipline in society, help bridge the gap between school teachers and scientists at the universities, and support and strengthen physics teachers to maintain and improve the quality of physics teaching.
To unite European scientists interested in the physics of fully and partially ionized gases, to promote research and teaching in plasma physics and its applications, to facilitate research collaboration, and to represent European physicists outside Europe.
To serve its scientific, industrial and educational communities by helping them obtain the latest information on progress in optics, photonics and related fields, to gain visibility for their research, to help them interact with their peers and to develop professionally.
To advance research in statistical and nonlinear physics, the dissemination of key results in this area to the general public, and the promotion and coordination of interdisciplinary research.
To unite individuals, Public Institutions, and laboratories interested in particle accelerators, storage rings and similar devices as used in scientific research and practical applications.
To foster European collaboration in the development of computational methods and tools in the context of the physics research.
To provide a forum for Member Societies and European scientists interested in questions relating to energy and technologies for the supply, distribution, transformation and use of energy in society.
To commemorate famous physicists, to recover the lost history of the more minor figures that contributed to physics, to celebrate the achievements of our profession, and to draw lessons on science policy from its past successes and failures.
The Physics for Development group represents actions that are transverse to the various research areas of physics. Its target broadly includes the support of physics and physicists who are nationals of, and working in developing countries, with a special focus on early career physicists.
To connect individual and associate EPS members as well as laboratories and other institutions interested in the use of technology as used in scientific research and related innovations resulting in applications.
