Computational Physics Group

The Computational Physics Group (CPG) was created in the early phase of EPS life as a forum of discussion on the use of computers in physics, with the aim “… to foster European collaboration in the development of computational methods and tools in the context of the physics research”

The main activity of the Computational Physics Group (CPG) has been a Series European Conferences in Computational Physics, since 1972 to the late eighties, together with the organisation of summer schools.

In 1990 the CPG had more than 400 members. The tradition of an annual Conferences on Computational Physics (CCP) was established, in a joint initiative, by EPS  and the American Physical Society (APS), in alternate sites in USA and in Europe. Since 1989, the conference has been sponsored by the IUPAP, with the conference sites moving also to other continents.
