The EPS Technology and Innovation Group (TIG) was formed in 1988. It connects individual and associate EPS members as well as laboratories and other institutions interested in the use of technology as used in scientific research and related innovations resulting in applications.
To encourage contacts between EPS members and specialists in the domain of scientific (physics) instrumentation, technology and related innovation.
To stimulate international co-operation and exchange of information.
To contribute, in close connection with other EPS Groups and Divisions, to industrial and EU-policies supporting the goals of EPS.
TIG aims at active collaboration with Associate Members, inviting them to co-host Technology, Innovation and Policy related workshops. Currently, EPS is working on a global approach to engage AMs across all of its Divisions and Groups. TIG will thus engage itself with initiatives cutting across EPS-wide.
2nd EPS TIG Hands-on Event for Science, Technology and Interfaces was organized on 30 Sept – 2 Oct, 2022 in the «IdeaSquare» building at CERN thanks to the contribution of Stefan Lubsky and Markus Nordberg. Its purpose was to offer young physicists and engineers new hands-on skills in hardware, software and related interfaces. The first such event took place in 2019 but in 2020 and 2021 the events were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Visit to the fusion reactor ITER on 23 November 2021 organized by the TIG. Eighteen physicists registered for the visit of the construction site close to Cadarache in Southern France, with a large representation of the Swiss Physical Society (SPS).
#ATTRACTYoung Hackathon for students on societal challenges, using detection & imaging technologies. In collaboration with EPS-Young Minds. Trieste, April 19-20, 2018.
Symposium on Detection and Imaging Technologies, with focus on sensor and imaging-related electronics, signal processing, software and system integration. Tripolis Greece (May 31-June 1, 2017). Organized in collaboration with ERDIT and UOP.
